Road Riding Skills Assessment

“One day out of your life to prepare for the unexpected”

As always, improving safety is our aim …
But it’s more than that. Being a Skilful rider means learning and practising the skills that improve balance, confidence, and ‘ability perception’ - in what can sometimes be hazardous situations. Being prepared for the unexpected means knowing we can deal with whatever comes up.

We also believe skilful motorcyclists should merge unobtrusively with other road users by displaying
‘the quiet efficiency that is the hallmark of the expert’.

Come with a group or on your own …
This training is popular with groups of friends, one-make clubs, Advanced Groups. We also have mainly female sessions; and no-one is alone for long! We operate with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 bikes per day. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.

Advanced Machine Skills in detail ...

The Advanced Machine Skills Course deals with:

  • Slow manoeuvring. The basis of motorcycle control.
  • Traffic stops and manoeuvres. A safe system to consider.
  • Hazard analysis. ‘Where’s the danger?’
  • Counter-steering. A closer look at turning your machine.
  • Emergency avoidance techniques. Swerving.
  • Merging, focussing, leaning.
  • Braking. Simply the most important and most neglected skill of all.
  • Group Riding. What you should do.
  • Anything else you want to talk about!

We have two huge areas to choose from:

1. Our great new site for Sundays (and other days):
Carver Barracks (former WW2 airfield): Carver Barracks, Wimbish (nr Debden) SAFFRON WALDEN Essex CB10 2YA.

Big airy, clean, with facilities to fill every Skills Training need. Really easy to reach from around London and the Home Counties.
Google Maps

2. Our Sunday only site:
The National Construction College: Bircham Newton, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, PE31 6RH.

This is our ‘local’ base, and I have been running these courses from here for the last 10 years or so. We have shelter from the elements (see gallery for pics), and there is decent hotel accommodation nearby at about £35.00 pp B&B.

Your day will normally start at 09.30 am, and finish around 4.00 to 5.00 pm depending on group needs, and your pillion passenger is welcome too. Why not? If you do a lot of 2-up riding you should!
